AMNERIS MORALES
A respected actress from the Puerto Rican theater, television and cinema scenes, with a vast experience not only as an actress but, also as producer and writer. She is also a Magna Cum Laude graduate of film production and direction from Universidad Ana G. Mendez, Puerto Rico with studies in psychology and acting. Her career in T.V. soap operas include productions in her homeland, as well as in Argentine television and other Latin American countries. In the United States she has appeared in television productions and on New York stages as guest actrees, receiving the ACE, HOLA and ATI Awards as Best Guest Actress (Best Guest Actrees – Puertorican Traveling Theater -“The Ortiz Sisters of Mott Haven,” PRTT 2004; “Luberza,” 2010; “Confesión en el Barrio Chino,” PRTT 2011; “Julia de Burgos: Child of Water,” 2015,)
As a producer, she founded “Círculo Mágico” in 1999 and co-founded Beatuful Angel Productions in 2007, a nonprofit theater companies in Puerto Rico, producing theater, television movies and documentaries. As director and producer she base on her productions on the social and cultural impact and the great responsibility we have on our hands as creative artists. Although focusses on the performance work, she seeks to unite different branches of the arts such as plastic arts and dance on my theatrical works.
In 2016 Amneris Morales joined the voices of the diaspora continuing her acting career on New York stages with poetic-musical works, film and theater: The short film “Grapes,” (Best Comedy Actress” – Official Latino Film Festival, 2018); the feature film, “Venus de Macho”, the short film “Dak ‘Toka’ Taino;” the plays “Filomena Marturano” (Spanish Repertoire/nominated Best Character Actress, 2020 ACE & LATA Awards) and, “The Tears Dry Alone” (Awarded the Institutional ACE Award 2019 for Excellence and LATA Institutional Award 2019)
After moving to NYC in 2016 she has produced at the Julia de Burgos Theater “De Aqui y de Alla”, a comedy festival and the series of events “La Patria Resiste” on ArtSpace, both projects to help victims in Puerto Rico after the passage of Hurricane Maria and Frenzy Fest.
Since she’s part of La Diaspora she worked “La Mariposa (Play),” film VENUS DE MACHO, short film “Grapes” (Best Actress Award / Latino Short Film Festival, short film “Dak’toka Taino (running for Oscars 2020). In 2019 she received the Institutional Latino Alternative Theater Awards (LATA) Extraordinary Award & 2019 ACE Institutional Extraordinary Award both for my work as Edith Piaf in the play “Las lagrimas se secan solas”.
Amneris Morales is a director, writer, and actor whose work spans theater and film, with a focus on bold, culturally grounded storytelling.
In 2020, Amneris wrote, directed, and starred in the short film Distortion as part of the Frenzy Short Film Festival. That same year, Amneris adapted and directed the poem What Love Kills by Jesús Papoleto Meléndez for the screen. She later directed the short film Nobody Lives Upstairs, which received Best Script recognition at Frenzy Fest 2021, and directed the stage production The Junkies Stole the Clock, earning Best Direction at the LATA Awards (2022).
Her recent theatrical credits include Filomena Marturano: Un Matrimonio a la Caribeña and La Casa de Bernarda Alba, produced by Repertorio Español, for which she received the ACE Award for Best Character Actress (2020). Additional directing and acting credits include Dominique and La Casa de Bernarda Alba Siglo XX, produced by Coquí Theater, and La Caída de Rafael Trujillo by Carmen Rivera, produced by Teatro Círculo.
In 2024 and 2025, Amneris co-directed the Barrio Independent Productions theater production Tuya Siempre, Julita with Ivan Goris. The production received multiple honors, including LATA Awards, ATI Awards, and Thalía Awards for Best Direction.
