Ivan Goris
A New York City native and growing up in the New York City Housing projects. During his growth he saw the importance of engaging in the human condition and the strengthen of storytelling. He is an actor, writer, director of photography and Stage Manager. Concerned about the mental health of people, he has carried out several philanthropic tasks such as: Worked at St Mark’s place institute for mental health for 10 years, Was part of a group that went out to help people in Far Rockaway clean up their homes after hurricane Sandy and also he performs at middle schools as freedom rider Lew Zuchmann during black history month and created a school video project with the students.
Ivan Goris is an actor, director, and co-founder of Barrio Independent Productions (BIP), whose work spans film, theater, and arts education.
Mr. Goris has created video projects in multiple elementary and high schools and served as stage manager for Alex Alpharoah’s one-man show addressing DACA reform. As a co-founder of BIP, he has led acting classes for senior citizens and served as Director of Photography on a short film created with elder performers. He also directed the short film Lluvias de Mayo, which was selected for the Official Latino Film Festival.
As a film and television actor, his credits include Anesthesia (2015, dir. Tim Blake Nelson), VINYL (HBO), The Get Down (Netflix), Allegiance (NBC), Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It, and West of the City, among others.
In 2020, he wrote, directed, and starred in the short film Tinted Glasses as part of the Frenzy Short Film Festival. He also starred in the short film Nobody Lives Upstairs.
On stage, Mr. Goris starred in The Junkies Stole the Clock, earning the LATA Award for Best Actor in 2022. More recently, his theater work includes La Caída de Rafael Trujillo by Carmen Rivera, produced by Teatro Círculo, for which he received the LATA Award for Best Actor in 2024. Additional stage credits include Dance10Project’s BABEL (2024, Barrio’s Artspace), Lady of the Clouds produced by The Mechanicals at the Gene Frankel Theatre (December 2025), and Ghost Stories by Luke Bond (March 2026).
In 2024 and 2025, Mr. Goris co-directed the BIP theatrical production Tuya Siempre, Julita alongside Amneris Morales, receiving LATA Awards, ATI Awards, and Talía Awards for Best Direction.
